1 Pkg. Chopped Dates – 8 oz.
1 Cup Hot Water
1 Tsp. Baking Soda
½ Cup Shortening
2 Eggs
1 ¾ Cup Flour
1 Cup Sugar
1 Tsp. Cocoa
1 Tsp. Vanilla
½ Cup Walnuts
1 Pkg. Chocolate Chips – 6 oz.
Powdered Sugar

1. Mix the dates and hot water together and let stand.

2. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs until fluffy.

3. Beat in the dry ingredients with date mixture and combine with the sugar mixture and the eggs mixture.

4. Pour into a 9x9 pan. Sprinkle the top with nuts and chocolate chips.

5. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Let cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
